This is one of the most durable sippy cups
I've ever seen. When the valve is in, we hardly have any leaks. The only con is that it's hard to drink out of it with the valve, so we usually take it out before handing it to our child. The valve is only in place when we are on the road. I would've given 5 stars if it weren't for the valve issue.

Ah, the irony: When my boys were 12 months old, we worked hard to get them used to holding a straw sippy cup (down) rather than how they held a bottle (tilting it up). They've used straw sippies exclusively for the past 6 months ... so when we gave them these Nalgene bottles at 18 months, they could not for the life of them figure out how to drink out of them! We kept demonstrating how to tilt them back but they just don't seem to be getting the hang of it. DH and I have tried drinking out of them ourselves to check the flow rate and they seem to work well, but I can't speak for how well they work for a normal toddler. My boys do think they're fun to play with and hold, and the bottles are somewhat spill-proof; my boys just don't manage to drink more than a few sips at a time (if that). Just a tip that if you teach your little ones how to drink from straw sippies, make sure you keep some regular sippies/cups/water bottles in the mix, too, so they don't have the problem our toddlers have. ;)

I just recently bought this bottle for my 25-month old and am extremely happy I did so. He really seems to enjoy drinking out of it, and the
problem with getting fluid out of it mentioned by most of the negative reviews is a non-issue if you simply remove the valve inside the top of the bottle. The valve is really for babies and perhaps very young toddlers who are still sucking (vs. drinking from regular cups) and/or don't have good hand control with their bottles. I'm not seeing any leakage or spillage issues with normal use.
For those concerned about the #7 recyclying code on the bottom of the bottle, this does not necessarily indicate the product is made with BPA. This is a catch-all number for several different kinds of materials, including BPA. The tritan material used with this Nalgene bottle does not contain BPA and according to what I read on the Camelbak website (yes, Camelbak uses this material as well), tritan has gone through extensive testing. Until I hear information to the contrary, this appears to be a safe bottle, and I'm pleased that it costs about half of what a similarly sized stainless steel bottle costs from either Klean Kanteen or Sigg.

I tried practically every cup on the market for my daughter but this is by far the best! No leaks!! She started using them at about 12 months, I was nervous because the spout is so hard, but she never had a problem. We did have one break, it was dropped on cement while full. I contacted the company and they sent me a replacement in two days. This is the only sippy cup to buy!

I bought a couple of these Nalgene bottles for my 18 month old last year and couldn't be more pleased with the product. The kid likes it, it's a nice-looking bottle, easy to clean, virtually indestructible if your kid likes to chuck stuff around. The only thing about this is that it doesn't come with a spout cover, so you might have to deal with a bit of leakage -- but that truly is a minor detail. The one thing that you do have to remember is that these aren't microwave-safe; we found that out the hard way and have had to order replacements.
