HandyJul 28, 2010 I bought this so that I could more easily (and more quickly) prepare soup. I like it's simple construction and easy cleanup; also, it only took a few seconds to thrash the vegetables into the smallest particles I prefer. I used it to chop up some pecans too, which is usually a bit of a chore for me. It is small though, which is both an advantage & disadvantage - easy to store but you have to chop up the vegetables some before using this chopper.
Awesome Little Chopper!Jul 20, 2010 This 'lil thing is great, it is perfect for our household of 2. It chops everything nicely, and makes most excellent breadcrumbs! I've used it for veggies, dressings, the breadcrumbs, I even used it to chop a few sugar cubes when I needed a little coarsely-grained sugar for a dessert. It's easy to clean and stores in a small spot in my pantry, and I like that it comes with a tight-sealing top to store stuff in the fridge. It's a real gem at a very reasonable price!
Fantastic Food ChopperJul 20, 2010 I found this food chopper to be exactly as I expected. I have used it to chop up several items and it did a wonderful job. I haven't tried any liquids yet. I like the pulse action because it allows me to see how fine the chop is.
best all rounderJul 20, 2010 I bought this chopper 5 yrs. ago. It has done every job, from making smoothies, milk shakes, cold coffee to chopping veggies. Indian cooking needs freshly chopped onion, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and green chillies for almost every savory dish and this chopper has done that perfectly through all these years. Now that the little plastic case that actually holds the pin for the blade is chipping, I thought of giving better known companies, a try (since I can afford them now). First, I bought Cuisinart DLC-2 Mini Prep Plus Food Processor. It did the job well but the bowl seemed so flimsy as if it were a toy, so returned it. Next, I bought Cuisinart CSB-77 Smart Stick Hand Blender with Whisk and Chopper Attachments. Work bowl is too small and the same flimsy plastic toy like material. So returned this one too. Next, I bought KitchenAid Chef Series Food Chopper. The work bowl is strong and sturdy, but did the chopping a little too fine, more like a puree of onions than chopping. Really liked the one by kitchenaid but my black and decker does rough chop, so it does a double duty for me, as a grater too. I don't have to use the grater (since some veggies in Indian cooking need grating) at all. But with KitchenAid, I will need a grater too (and I hate to use one).
So, I'm all for Black and Decker. It's cheap (only $19) , work bowl is sturdy and lasts years.
The most used applicance in my kitchenJul 18, 2010 In terms of the usage this little chopper gets in my kitchen, almost daily, this is the best investment I've ever made for any small appliance; and I cook a lot. I bought it when my food processor died, as an "interim" chopper while deciding which food processor to buy. Never happened. The B&D chopper is perfect for my small kitchen: doesn't take any counter space, cleans quickly, and chopps almost everything you throw at it quickly and evenly. I said "almost" because it doesn't chopp herbs well unless you mix them with a liquid or something more solid, such as onions or garlic, but this also happened with my older food processor and I always end up chopping them by hand. I also have a KitchenAid mixer and a great blender, and they take care of any job this chopper is not designed to do(soups, kneading, whipping, etc.) making the need for a food processor unnecesary in my kitchen. I even use it to make quick sorbets with frozen fruit and yogurt or juice! I got another one for my son, and he loves it too. Highly recommended!!!
