3Gets the Job DoneJun 01, 2010
This unit outputs a very clear picture to whatever you have it hooked up to, it's hard to find HDTV tuners out there.

My main complaint with this unit is that the receiver does not have what most would consider an EPG. I consider it no EPG at all, but that isn't true. You hit the "guide" button and it shows what is currently on the channel you are watching. It makes it difficult to see what is currently on when you have many channels. Many $50.00 converter boxes can list all the channels and what is currently on, on each channel. Basically you have to change the channel, hit guide, change the channel, hit guide, repeat. Why each channel change doesn't display what is on when you tune to it, I don't know. And why there is no way to list every channel and what is currently on, I don't know. It takes quite a while to tune through all the channels (22 for me) every couple hours to see what is on.

The "signal" reading for a channel is not a 1-100%, there is no tone, it is a set of bars, and depending on how many bars you have, that is your signal. This can make pointing an antenna very difficult, but that's a minor complaint because most people already have their antenna setup.

I had a problem with a tapping noise transmitting over my HDMI cable. The HDMI cable is now being used on another device (my PC) without any issues, however I can't 100% confirm it was the receiver to blame.

ePVision support is excellent, they will work with you on any problems you have.

5QAM tunerMay 14, 2010
I use this tuner with the cable that comes into my house and it picks up the free cable channels very well. I can see all the channels that I would expect to get over the air, but now I don't need to mess with the antenna. This unit also serves as a clock to tell time since I don't have a clock in the room where the TV is. The channel guide is functional but only tells you what is showing at the moment. I don't have an HD TV yet so I don't know how well this tuner displays in HD, but for SD the picture output is very clear.

4good tuner. remote a little weakApr 22, 2010
Like a lot of people, I have ditched the cable company and gone with over the air TV and the internet. I have a Sony LCD TV that does not have an internal tuner (they call them "HD monitors") I purchased this and hooked it up to the RCA antenna. It works great and the picture I get is better than what I had with Time Warner. The only flaw is the remote which has a weak signal. Otherwise, I am very happy.

4Very pleased with this hdtv reciever!Mar 21, 2010
I purchased this reciever trying to get the picture quality out of my 50" Sony Grand Wega Tv. I didn't realize when i purchased the tv in 2004 that it was just a hdtv monitor. I recently canceled my cable due to getting fed up with nothing new on and me watching channels i could get for free. I had purchased a Craigs converter box which picked up the local 8 channels in the area. After reviewing different hdtv tuners, i decided to give this one a shot.
At first i was disappointed because i thought i was going to pick up more channels than i did with the converter box- note i only have an indoor hdtv antenna. This box picked up the same 8 channels but within a short period of time, i realized how much better the picture looked. The picture quality is excellent, way better than anything cable was delivering me.
The reciever seems well built and as with other reviews i have to agree that the remote control could go for some improvements. You have to aim it just right in order for it to work. I have to give this reciever a huge thumbs up. I am extremely happy with the picture quality. Now im thinking about getting an outdoor antenna and see what else i can pull in.
